    • Unity
    • Self-determination
    • Collective work and responsibility
    • Cooperative economics
    • Purpose
    • Creativity
    • Faith

HISTORY

The dream started with E. Malkia Brantuo knowing that education, formal or informal, is the key to a successful life. As a result Timbuktu Academy of Science and Technology (TAST) was established as a charter school in Detroit, MI, on September 23, 1997. The foundation for the rigorous curriculum is African Centrism with emphasis on science and technology. After three years of managing TAST, E. Malkia Brantuo felt the need to have a sister school in Ghana, West Africa. The construction began in 2002 for Ayensudu Akoma International Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAIAAS). The purpose of the sister schools is to exchange cultural information, historical data, differing lifestyles, myths, stereotypes, and taboos.

AAIAAS opened in September 2004 with 58 students 53 of which were orphans. The school continues to educate and service more than 100 children yearly regardless of family income. In September 2008, we will begin our fifth year on our 4 acres of land with our 10 classrooms, a computer lab, a toy and book library, and 2 offices housed in two buildings.

Our expansion plan includes; the purchase of a bus for transporting the children to and from school and on field trips, the purchase 6 additional acres of land, and building two additional buildings with 3 and 4 classrooms respectively.

Our task is great, our parents are poor, but our children are eager to learn and that is our reward!
